Caring for your teeth properly is vital if you want their natural life to be as long as yours. But sometimes, however well you care for your teeth and gums, you will need extra help to keep them in top condition.

That is why at Chiswick Park Dental Practice we put a great deal of effort into preventive care for all our patients.

Our hygienists play a vital role in this. Seeing the hygienist regularly helps you to take the best possible care of your teeth and gums so that you can avoid problems caused by decay and gum disease. Gum disease usually goes unnoticed by sufferers until the later stages, but it is the biggest cause of tooth loss in adults.

Regular hygienist visits will also help prevent halitosis (‘bad breath’) often associated with gum disease and both the hygienist and dentist are happy to offer advice and treatment for this.

During your visit our hygienist will clean your teeth professionally, removing any plaque (a layer of bacteria which causes gum disease) and tarter. You will also have your teeth polished, helping them to look and feel fresh and clean.

You will be advised on the best way to brush your teeth and to clean between them and under the gum-line. The hygienist may speak to you about your diet or smoking, and the way they can affect your oral health. And if you have any questions about caring for your teeth and gums, they will of course be able to help you with them.

Intensive Stain Removal

It is possible to have an additional polishing of your teeth provided at the same time as your standard hygienist appointment. Prophyjet polishing removes surface stains from your teeth - even those in the hard to reach areas between teeth.

A spray of air, sodium bicarbonate and a water jet meet to quickly remove plaque and tea, coffee and smoking stains without pain or damaging your teeth. It tastes lemon fresh and afterwards you will be surprised at how smooth your teeth feel and you will be delighted by their bright, light appearance.

Oraquix

Our dental team are able to offer a needle-free anaesthetic option that can help make your hygiene experience more comfortable. Oraquix is a non-injectable dental local anaesthetic for localised anaesthesia in periodontal pockets for diagnostic and treatment procedures such as probing and scaling.

We also offer a range of other preventive treatments, including fissure sealants for both children and adults, which help to combat decay on vulnerable back teeth.

We are able to offer advice on a wide range of subjects including, which toothbrush, mouthwash, floss and interdental cleaning aids are best for you. All these are available to purchase from the practice shop.
